Typographic Experiment I

As part of my studies for an MA in Creative Media I am undertaking a number of typographic experiments that explore the tension between medium and meaning as it applies to the written word. At the core of this experimentation is the question: what is it about certain letterforms (shapes) that communicate?
In this example, the only formal letter-forms are the 'e', 'a' and 'g'. The other letterforms are made up by repeating the 'i' form and adjusting kerning. In spite of all this deconstruction, the word 'meaning' is still legible.
Currently, the experiments have taken a new direction in exploring the transmission (communication) of encoded
meaning through media. Whether that medium be the page, the pixel or the written word itself, each have an
impact on the coding and decoding of meaning conveyed through that medium.
Current paper-based experiments explore these notions of meaning and medium through the manipulation of letterforms and the manipulation of the medium itself. Being paper-based the responsiveness and tactile quality of the medium are exploited.
